The Laurels Residential and Nursing Home provides residential, nursing and physical disability care for older people. We provide modern facilities in a homely, comfortable atmosphere with warm and friendly staff.
At the Laurels we have 43 comfortable bedrooms. Most bedrooms have an en-suite toilet facility and all have an emergency call system in place. Residents are encouraged to bring their personal belongings into the home to make their room familiar and individual to them. Some bedrooms have patio doors leading to a area outside where we provide outdoor seating.
There are three spacious lounge areas where people can relax as well as dining areas for meal times. The home has both front and rear gardens where residents can enjoy the fresh air.
The home is very close to Spondon village, the train station, bus routes and the town centre. We have a large supermarket nearby and we organise regular shopping outings to the store. Other local attractions include nearby Elvaston Castle and Locko Park.
Our care team is on-hand 24 hours a day, every day of the year and staff are dedicated to delivering care with kindness.
To ensure we continue to provide the best standards of care and support to our residents, we recruit and train only the best staff.
Whilst they receive a variety of on-going training to ensure their skills remain up-to-date, along with an enhanced DBS check (formerly CRB), it is their dedication to our residents which makes them truly special.
People can choose to take part in stimulating and engaging activities designed to boost their confidence and increase their independence. Our activity co-ordinators support and encourage people to become involved in activities such as card games, dominoes, reading sessions and crafts. We have entertainers and singers who attend regularly and visits from choirs and bands of local schools.
We have fortnightly visits from a hairdresser, monthly religious services and regular visits from chiropodists, dentists, opticians and other professionals.
Residents enjoy regular trips out to have fish and chips for lunch and other popular outings include boat trips and bingo. We have strong links with the local community and our local councillor as well as representatives from nearby churches who often visit us. We enjoy hosting regular events that enable residents to spend time having fun with their friends and family at the home.
We aim to empower residents to make their own choices about how they live their lives.
We believe that every individual irrespective of their physical, social or psychological condition has the right to be treated with dignity and respect and supported to maintain choice and control over their own lives.
We understand that people bring with them a life story of achievements, events and life experiences and know that this information is essential to ensure a tailored care package for each individual’s specific needs.
We ensure that our person-centred assessments are all tailored to the whole person and we will look at what people can do, not just what they need assistance with. Most importantly we ensure that the individual themselves and their loved ones help us to put together a bespoke plan of care. We appreciate how difficult the decision is to move into permanent or even short stay care and we aim to make this transition as easy as possible.
Meal times are an important part of the day at The Laurels. Our experienced catering staff prepare a varied menu of wholesome home cooked food every day and we cater for individual likes and dislikes from a cultural, religious or choice perspective.
