Birchwood Court Residential Care Home provides care and support for up to 43 older people in welcoming surroundings.

The home caters for people who have lifelong conditions, those who are recovering from an injury or illness and those who are living with dementia. Situated in the heart of a local community, the home creates a peaceful, welcoming and homely atmosphere for residents to enjoy and relax in.

Birchwood Court is set in its own gardens off the main street in a residential area near to public transport routes, shops and local facilities. The building is on two levels and is split into three living areas.

We provide a caring and friendly environment and offer a variety of leisure, social and therapeutic activities tailored to the wishes and needs of the individuals who live with us. Through our professional partners, we can also provide Occupational Therapy, physiotherapy, speech therapy and dietetic support.

We promote a way of living for our residents that reflects their life at home. This approach ensures residents are comfortable and confident in their surroundings, and most importantly doing and achieving what they want from their day to day life.

Accommodation

Birchwood Court has bright, uplifting and easily accessible bedrooms. Each room has en-suite washing facilities, high power plug points, bedside lights, personal thermostat and an emergency call system. We also offer induction loops for those hard of hearing.

There are several lounges and dining areas where people can socialise, enjoy meals and take part in various activities. We also have beautiful accessible gardens, which are ideal for residents to explore.

Our team

Our care team is on hand to assist 24 hours a day, ensuring the people in our care receive as much or as little help as they want and need. To ensure residents health needs are met, we organise regular visits from the local GP. This considered and thorough monitoring compliments the excellent care that is already delivered by our highly experienced and qualified staff, to ensure the best level of support is given to our residents.

Activities

We run a number of activities during the week and our residents particularly love our Oomph classes. Oomph is about having fun, having good social interaction with other residents while exercising; putting ‘Oomph’ into our residents' lives.

During the summer months, it is a great opportunity for our residents to get out and about. We take residents out on regular day trips in our minibus.

We are located in Easington less than three miles from Peterlee town centre. Easington itself has some pubs, restaurants and convenience stores as well as a church.

The Castle Dene Shopping centre in Peterlee has a range of high-street shops and there is a supermarket next door. There are a number of churches in the area and local facilities such as hospitals, GPs and a library.

We are also near to the Castle Eden Dene National Nature Reserve and the Castle Eden Golf Club.  Towns such as Middlesbrough, Hartlepool, Durham and Newcastle Upon Tyne are all within a comfortable distance.

Care and Support

At Birchwood, we strongly believe in putting the people we care for at the very heart of their care plan. In everything we do, we focus on what people can do, not just what they need assistance with.

At the very start of the process, our team will make an initial assessment, in conjunction with family/friends, which identifies the needs, goals and wishes of each person we care for.  To ensure we are keeping pace with our resident's changing's needs and capabilities; the plan is then reviewed regularly.

Home-cooked meals

Food plays an important role at Birchwood Court. We look to provide fresh, tasty food in response to an individual’s preference and dietary requirements. People are encouraged to eat in the dining area but may eat in their bedrooms if preferred.
