A Sanctuary Care home is welcoming members of the local community who live with dementia and their carers along to a free weekly ‘Share and Smile’ social event.
People are invited to the day care centre at Ashley House Residential Care Home between 2pm and 4pm every Tuesday, commencing Tuesday 29 April, to join the home’s residents for a delicious afternoon tea and array of activities, from arts and crafts to music and singing.
The ‘Share and Smile’ events are being launched by Ashley House to show support for the Alzheimer’s Society’s ‘Dementia Friendly Communities’ vision, a campaign which aims to create communities in which people are aware of and understand more about dementia. The vision is for people living with dementia to feel more included in their community and for their carers to be able to seek help and support.
Margaret Powell, the home’s manager, said: “By hosting these afternoons every week, we hope to provide an opportunity for people with dementia and their carers to engage with the local community, enjoy some social time and meet others in similar situations.
“Our ‘Share and Smile’ events will enable people to engage in some lovely activities, enjoy some tea and cake and share experiences with others in an informal and friendly environment.”
