Residents at a Sanctuary Care home in Telford enjoyed a nativity with a twist when youngsters from a local primary school performed their hearts out.
Recently six and seven year olds from Holmer Lake Primary School treated residents at Lake View Residential Care Home in Brookside Avenue, Brookside to a modern take on a festive tradition, with their nativity play ‘The Stable Boy’.
Dressed in traditional costumes, Joseph, Mary, the donkeys the rest of the cast were a huge hit, and even brought tears of joy to the eyes of resident Mary Rowley, when they sang happy birthday to the 87-year-old. Mary said: “It absolutely made my day - it was lovely.”
Resident Margaret Jones, who is 93 years old said: “It was excellent and the children were lovely. It was very good, I loved it.”
Fellow resident Harold Fletcher, who is 91 said of the performance: “It was brilliant.”
Children from the school are regular visitors to the home and gave each resident a beautiful hand-written letter inviting them to a Christmas performance at the school.
Deputy manager at the home, which provides residential care and dementia care, Dannie Sheldon said: “There is nothing more festive than the sound of children singing around a Christmas tree. Our residents love visits from our young friends from Holmer Lake – their eyes light up when they see them – so this was the perfect way to spread some festive cheer.
“The children were amazing and there were lots of beaming, smiling faces in the audience.”
Meanwhile on Saturday (13 December), people from the local community are invited to visit the home and browse the stalls at the Christmas fayre, taking place from 2pm to 5pm.
Joining the residents and team – who will be dressed as Santa’s elves - will be cheerleaders from Cheer Force 10 Tinys, who are aged three and upwards and will be there from about 2.30pm to 3.30pm.
Money raised at the event will go to the residents’ activities fund, which pays for trips and treats for the residents to enjoy.
