Sanctuary Care homes up and down the country have been a vision of green this week in honour of St Patrick’s Day.
At Castlecroft Residential Care Home in Weoley Castle, Birmingham the team and residents have been busy making their own flags, garlands and decorations in the colours of the national flag.
There was also an abundance of cakes iced with lucky four leaf clovers plus a traditional ‘knees- up’ with a performance by a troupe of Irish dancers.
Residents at Lammas House Residential Care Home in Coventry also ensured they looked the part by crafting themed hats, decorated with shamrocks and leprechauns.
The team joined residents in the Patron Saint of Ireland festivities by sporting white, green and orange striped faces to reflect the Irish flag.
In keeping with the Gaelic celebrations, everyone sat down together for a traditional feast of cabbage and champ, followed by Irish coffee and Baileys.
Similarly, the residents at Ravenhurst Residential Care Home in Stourport-on-Severn picked up the green paint to fill the home with leprechauns and lucky four leaf clovers.
While sporting themed hats, residents and the team enjoyed a good-old fashioned Irish coffee, a tipple of Baileys and Guinness.
Sixty-four year-old resident Janice Allington said: “I had a ‘top of the morning’ and really enjoyed painting St Patrick’s Day pictures and drinking lovely Irish coffee.”
Joy Langmore, 82-year-old resident added: “The Irish coffee was lovely.”
Meanwhile, Haven Residential Care Home was joined by Romford youngsters to mark the annual holiday.
Residents and the team set the scene perfectly for their Gaelic ‘knees-up’ by adorning Irish bunting and flags from wall-to-wall.
While enjoying an ‘all legs’ Irish dance performance, everyone appreciated St Patrick’s Day with themed cocktail food and drink.
The Sanctuary Care’s activities leader, Urvashi Kapur, continued: “Everyone had a lovely time celebrating St Patrick’s Day. The dancers were fantastic and filled the air with Irish cheer. We can’t wait to celebrate next year!”
