An abundance of stirring, whipping and icing has been taking place at a Sanctuary Care home in Harrow.
To mark The Queen’s 90th birthday, the team and residents at Rowanweald Residential and Nursing Home in Weald Lane have been mixing, baking and icing their hearts out for a flour power-themed competition.
Aiming for the top spot, the Weald Lane home has created a two tiered masterpiece to enter into national culinary contest the Novelty 90th Birthday Cake Challenge.
The competition, run by Unilever Food Solutions and NAPA (National Activity Providers Association) was open to catering teams in care homes across the country. With the help of their residents, homes are asked to submit a photograph of their cake, along with a write up about how they made it, for the chance to be featured in a nostalgic baking book and a host of other prizes.
Stunning birthday cake
The Sanctuary Care home’s manager Noreen Adedeji said: said: “We had a fantastic time working together to bake our beautiful cake for The Queen – our residents adore Her Majesty and got into the spirit of making a stunning cake for her birthday.”
In addition to the cake competition, the team and residents also baked up a storm to support the Alzheimer’s Society’s national awareness Cupcake Day – a day where people nationwide bake and sell cupcakes to raise funds for the charity.
New care suites
Last month, Rowanweald Residential and Nursing Home opened two new care suites. The team support residents to live happy and fulfilled lives by providing person-centred activities and rekindling favourite pastimes like baking.
