Local teenagers from the National Citizen Service (NCS) have been rolling up their sleeves to support a Sanctuary Care home in Bordon this summer.
A group of young people, aged 15 to 17, have been visiting the team and residents at Ashley House Residential Care Home in Forest Road as part of a national programme, where young people are learning more about making a difference in their local community.
Making their mark
The budding helpers added a spot of colour to the home’s sensory gardens by revamping the garden furniture, hand painting beautiful butterfly designs.
They also held engaging activities for the residents including relaxing pamper sessions and movement to music fun.
Finally, they completed a sponsored walk and with the money raised the NCS volunteers kindly donated two CD players to the home.
“Kind lovely people”
Sharing their gratitude, 83-year-old resident Joyce Parker said: “They were lovely young people, I really enjoyed chatting to them and hearing all about the programme and what they are doing in their lives. Thanks to them, we have a lovely new music machine to sing along with – it’s great.”
Ken Fisher, 84, added: “What kind people, it was lovely to spend time with them – they did a great job painting our garden furniture and we even enjoyed ice cream which they bought for us.”
The Sanctuary Care home’s manager Margaret Powell said: “The young volunteers were a credit to the NCS, they were a joy to have in the home and were so friendly, happy and they genuinely wanted to be there and make a difference for our residents. Our garden looks fantastic and the residents are enjoying the CD players they kindly donated already – thank you again.”
