Sanctuary Care residents in Bridgwater are blossoming together as they get set to embrace a special nationwide event.
Silver Sunday is a national day celebrating older people, where local communities and organisations host free events to help combat loneliness and reduce isolation.
It was started four years ago by the Sir Simon Milton Foundation, an organisation which supports disadvantaged young people and isolated older people.
Beautiful flower decorations
The team and residents have rolled up their sleeves to craft beautiful orchid themed decorations and accessories in honour of the foundation’s official flower.
From bunting to broaches, the Mayfield Drive home will be a vision of pink and purple this weekend and many residents are already commenting on how much they “love” the pretty flower.
Commenting on the homemade decorations and accessories, Linda Adams, who is 77 years old said: “I have always loved flowers, the orchids are so pretty.”
Jazz-themed tea dance
On Silver Sunday, between 2pm and 4pm, the home will be hosting a jazz themed tea dance with live music from the Ambassadors of Jazz and a high tea menu for everyone to enjoy, with a variety of delicious finger sandwiches and cakes.
When asked if she likes Jazz, Linda responded: “Of course I do, I love jazz – it was a lovely idea.”
The home’s Activities Leader Andree Chandler continued: “There is so much to look forward to for our Silver Sunday celebration – there will be great food, wonderful company and toe-tapping entertainment so we do hope as many people come along and support us to celebrate our residents and other local older people.”
For those wishing to attend the home’s Silver Sunday event, the address is:Mayfield Drive, Durleigh, Bridgwater TA6 7JQ.
