Sanctuary Care homes up and down the country are celebrating the lives of their residents, and local older people, this weekend as they host a Silver Sunday tea dance on Sunday 2nd October, 2pm – 4pm.
All our 12 care homes throughout London, from Streatham Vale and Woolwich to Greenwich and Harrow, will be hosting a free celebration where you can meet with residents, enjoy live music and fabulous food.

Lyons Tea Room in Stepney
Hawthorn Green Residential and Nursing Home in Stepney will be transformed into a 1920s Lyons Tea Room when they host a tea dance to remember.
The team will be dressed as traditional ‘nippies’ and there will be live music from a Charleston performer, who will also be teaching residents and visitors a quick step or two.
Thomas Gamble, 86-year-old resident said: “I’m really looking forward to a good old knees up and learning some new moves.”
Swinging 60s in Greenwich
Rolling forward four decades, the team and residents at Riverlee Residential and Nursing Home in Greenwich will be throwing open the doors to host a fabulous 1960s tea dance.
There will be live music from Mirinda Richards and a delicious high-tea menu, as well as the team donning bright and patterned 1960s attire for the special celebration.
The home’s Activities Leader Tina Suleiman added: “Our residents really enjoy welcoming new faces into the home so we look forward to welcoming them along, it will be the perfect mix of delicious food, great company and toe-tapping music.”
Celebrations in Harrow
Rowanweald Residential and Nursing Home in Harrow will also be transporting back to the swinging 60s when they host a flower power themed tea dance.
The team and residents will be donning themed attire and the home will be adorned in homemade flower power decorations.
Commenting on the sixties themed decorations, Betty Samuel, who is 90 years old, said: “I really enjoyed making the floral decorations. We were all together, getting excited for our Silver Sunday party.”
Rowanweald on the day are inviting the community along for a tea dance for everyone to enjoy with live music and delicious high-tea refreshments.
