The festive cheer will be flowing at a Sanctuary Care home in Chester, where they are set to be celebrating an advent of activities every day in December.
Ahead of their 25-day countdown, the team and residents at Upton Dene Residential and Nursing Home in Caldecott Close have been capturing the magic of Christmas by rolling up their sleeves to lovingly create yuletide decorations and baubles.
Beautiful ceramic baubles
Creating beautiful designs with brightly water based coloured paints, residents were joined by local arts and crafts enthusiasts from Spotty Pig Ceramics in St James Street. The group made a range of baubles, including reindeer and Father Christmas baubles, which will hang proudly on the home’s tree this Christmas time.
Residents and husband and wife, Doreen and Godfrey Woolf both enjoyed creating the beautifully bright decorations.
“…perfect way to start celebrating…”
87-year-old Doreen said: “The baubles were just lovely – they were so bright and nice and the light glistens off them. They are perfect for Christmas and it was the perfect way to start celebrating this time of year.”
The festive occasion proved to be a wonderful and therapeutic activity for residents, conjuring up many happy memories of times with their young families.
Bringing back fond memories
The Sanctuary Care home’s activities leader Julie Harvey explained: “All our residents love Christmas and have so many fond memories and we find doing fun activities – from festive arts and crafts to Christmas carols, brings all those wonderful moments flooding back and it’s a real joy to hear.
“The Christmas decorations will look lovely and they will be a great present to loved ones or will make a gorgeous addition to the home’s Christmas tree.”
