A Sanctuary Care home in Chester has been enjoying traditional and new twists on one of their favourite tipples.
Celebrating the festive season in style, residents at Upton Dene Residential and Nursing Home in Caldecott Close have shaken and stirred up their trusty gin and tonic this Christmas time in a fun gin-tasting session.
Sampling a range of cocktails, residents came together to vote for their favourite gin-inspired cocktail with nibbles and olives on the side.
87-year-old resident Jean Capner said: “Oh it was such a marvelous evening, I couldn’t stop smiling and we all shared a good chuckle. The gin was lovely as well.”
Doreen Vardy, who is 91 years old added: “I tried all the sample gins and I have to say the trusty gin and tonic was still my favourite. It was such a fun and lovely evening shared by all.”
The drink that received the most votes was the Sloe Gin Fizz – a wild berry infused gin number with tonic and orange to garnish.
The Sanctuary Care home’s manager Matthew Bell said: “The gin tasting session was a lovely evening, as you can imagine our residents loved being wined and dined. There was a real celebratory feel in the air which was perfect for this time of year.
“Next month we will be sampling twists on whisky – safe to say we are all excited!”
