Sanctuary Care homes across Worcestershire are spreading the festive cheer this Christmas time by donating to others.
The team, residents and loved ones of Sanctuary Care’s nine care homes in the region are donating gifts to local older people who are spending this Christmas time in hospital.
From fancy toiletries and nail manicure sets to chocolates and biscuits, the wrapped up surprises are being hand delivered to their nearest hospital this week.
Donations to Kidderminster Hospital
Carla said: “Christmas is a nostalgic time of year which is all about sharing and making memories with the people that you love and unfortunately many people are spending it away from their families due to no fault of their own, so we wanted to do our bit for the community and share a little joy with them.”
Mavis Thomas, 76-year-old resident, added: “Being in hospital isn’t nice at any time of year least of all Christmas so it’s wonderful we are doing something nice for them, especially as they can’t be with their friends and family.”
Christmas treats for Worcestershire Royal
Residents helped wrapped all the gifts and found the Christmas present appeal very rewarding, with residents at Regent Residential Care Home in St Johns, Worcester donating to Worcestershire Royal.
Activities leader at Regent, Bridie Gray from explained: “It was so heart-warming that so many of our residents rallied behind the appeal – they all wanted to do their bit at spreading Christmas cheer to those in need.”
Valerie Auty, 73-year-old resident, said: “It’s a lovely idea that we are sending presents to our local hospital, everyone should get to open presents at Christmas so I hope they raise lots of smiles.”
Juniper House Residential Care Home also donated Worcestershire Royal, where activities assistant Alan Ricketts dressed as Santa.
Hospital Christmas Appeal
All nine Sanctuary Care homes in Worcestershire launched the ‘Hospital Christmas Appeal’ throughout December by donating festive gifts to elderly people who will be spending Christmas time in hospital.
Hospitals receiving gifts are dotting throughout the region including Redditch, Pershore, Malvern, Bromsgrove, Droitwich Spa and Worcester, including the Lickey Ward at the Princess of Wales Community Hospital and the Alexandra Hospital.
