A Sanctuary Care home in Chester has adorned the home in forget-me-nots to help raise awareness of dementia and the support they provide to the Chester community.
During Dementia Awareness Week (14-20 May), the team and residents at Upton Dene Residential and Nursing Home in Caldecott Close have transformed their home into a scene of beautiful blue and yellow forget-me-not flowers.
Forget-me-not brooches and decorations
Following the themed arts and crafts, 92-year-old resident Doreen Vardy said: “I really enjoyed making the forget-me-not brooches, we are all wearing them with pride for Dementia Awareness Week.”
Fellow resident Jean Capner, who is 87 years old, added: “The forget-me-not flowers are beautiful, all the flowers look really bright and our display really stands out.”
“Understanding of dementia is vital…”
The Sanctuary Care home’s activities leader Bernie Harding said: “We really wanted to come together to show our support and help raise awareness during Dementia Awareness Week as it’s a cause so close to our hearts, and seeing our beautiful forget-me-not display it’s clear that we have done just that!
“Understanding of dementia is vital and we hope by raising awareness more and more people understand what life is like with dementia and reach out to the support networks that they have readily available within their community.”
