There will be beach party fun, vintage tea parties and Wimbledon fever to enjoy when Sanctuary Care homes in Oxfordshire host Care Home Open Day celebrations this week.
On Friday 16 June people from the local community are invited to Yarnton Residential and Nursing Home in Rutten Lane, Wantage Nursing Home in Garston Lane and Iffley Residential and Nursing Home in Anne Greenwood Close.
All three homes will be throwing open the doors for this annual event, where care homes across the country invite people to share a special day of celebrations with their residents and the teams.
Beach party fun in Yarnton
There will be flamingos, floral garlands and grass skirts galore when Yarnton Residential and Nursing Home brings the flavour and fun of a tropical paradise into the heart of their rural village between 10:00am-12:00pm and 3:00pm-6:00pm.
There will be summer-themed activities to take part in the morning, followed by beach party fun in the afternoon, complete with live music and beach games including limbo and tin can alley. Visitors will also be able to enjoy barbecue refreshments and luxury ice-creams on the home’s very own ‘beach’.
The team will be dressed for the occasion wearing floral garlands, grass skirts and flip flops and the home will be adorned in inflatable flamingos and other fun props, as well as tropical fish bowls and bunting which the residents have made ahead of the big day.
Game, set and match in Wantage
Wimbledon fever will be in the air at Wantage Nursing Home, ahead of the pending competition, between 11:00am and 4:00pm when the team and residents host a tennis-themed celebration.
There will be an abundance of strawberries and cream to enjoy while residents reminisce over their favourite tennis stars as well as fun garden games and pianist entertainment in the afternoon.
Activities assistant at Wantage, Wendy Pill said: “Our residents really enjoy Wimbledon and really look forward to meeting new people, so we wanted to bring their two loves together and host the perfectly themed Care Home Open Day celebration. We hope many from the local community join us for what promises to be a very special day.”
Vintage tea party fun
Meanwhile, Iffley Residential and Nursing Home will be hosting a nostalgic tea party between 10:00am-12:00pm and 2:00pm-4:00pm with live music from the rolled back eras in the morning and a vintage fair in the afternoon.
There will also be mouth-watering high-tea refreshments including homemade cakes on tiered stands and other sweet treats to enjoy throughout the day.
