Sanctuary Care’s virtual summer cruise has set sail – with one of our first ships departing from Minehead in Somerset.
The teams at our care homes across the country are treating their residents to a summer holiday to remember over the next month, ‘transporting’ them to countries around the globe during their virtual summer cruise events.
The residents at The Winsor Nursing Home in Minehead have enjoyed their cruise already - visiting France, before embarking to Italy, Greece, Spain and then docking in Blighty!
During the week they sampled mouth-watering dishes from their chosen destinations, from duck in plum sauce to paella and tapas, topped off with the traditional roast beef and Yorkshire pudding on their ‘return’ home.
They also enjoyed local tipples from the regions including Sangria, Ouzo and Greek liqueurs, as well as tradtional music.
The week was filled with themed activities, including movies such as The Italian Job, Moulin Rouge, talks about their chosen destinations’ histories and an indoor beach party, with paddling pools and sand castles.
Activities leader Sue Auger said: “Our virtual summer cruise week went down fabulously – the food was out of this world and our residents absolutely loved it.
“Every day they would be asking where they were visiting and were so excited to experience these different places right on their doorstep.”
