The rain didn’t stop play at a Sanctuary Care home in Hersden when the team and residents held a Wimbledon-themed party.
Yesterday, Meadow View Residential Care Home in Blackthorn Road was transformed into a scene from centre court for an afternoon of tennis-related fun.
Residents and the team enjoyed a game or two of indoor tennis followed by strawberries and cream.
One of the residents Lillian Butler, who is 97 said: "Andy Murray is very good. I always follow him because he’s such a good player. Tennis is excellent - I enjoy watching it on a regular basis and listening to the commentator. I love strawberries and cream so it was a nice treat to have that this afternoon."
Fellow resident Bill Draycott, who is 89 added: "I like Wimbledon very much and have been there to watch it quite a lot – I wish I could go there and play. I like strawberries and cream so really enjoyed them."
The home's activities leader Katherine Hammond said the day was a celebration of the residents' love of the great game, which many of them have been avidly following. "So many of them have been watching it on television like they have been for many years and have really enjoyed it, so we thought we would bring Wimbledon into their home."
There will be more themed fun at the home on Wednesday 26 July, between 2:00pm and 4:00pm, when it will be throwing open the doors for a Spanish cruise themed afternoon, to which the community are invited.
With traditional cuisine and drinks, art sessions featuring famous Spanish artists as well and Flamenco dancers, there will be fun for all the family.
The address for those wishing to attend is:Meadow View Residential and Nursing Home, Blackthorn Road, Hersden, CT3 4GB.
