The manager of a Sanctuary Care home in Weston-super-Mare is over the moon after being shortlisted for a prestigious care award.
Lyn Taylor who works at Beach Lawns Residential and Nursing Home, has been shortlisted for the Care Home Registered Manager category of the South West Care Awards, part of the Great British Care Awards.
Lyn, who has over 20 years’ experience in care, received a surprise nomination by her employer, Sanctuary Care, following a touching letter from Magda Leszczynska, deputy manager at the Beach Road home, signed by the team and residents, describing what a wonderful home manager Lyn is.
Speaking of the award Lyn said: “I am so proud that the people that I work hand in hand with each day thought that I was worthy of such a nomination - and to be shortlisted is just such a shock but a great honour.”
The award is for a home manager who demonstrates a high level of expertise together with exceptional skills in managing and running a care home. The manager also needs to show vision in developing person centred care and supporting their staff to meet the needs of their residents.
The homes recent CQC inspection report is a testament to Lyn’s hard work and dedication, with Beach Lawns receiving a ‘Good’ rating is all five aspects, which include ‘caring’, ‘safe’ and ‘well-led’.
The report describes Lyn as having a clear vision for the home, to make it the best she could and one person commenting: “It is like having a captain to a ship – ready to guide us.” Lyn will be attending an awards gala night in November in Bristol, where the category winners will be announced.
The winners of the regional awards will then go forward for the Great British Care Awards national finals, which take place in February in Birmingham.
This year’s awards are perfectly timed as mark the beginning of Sanctuary Care’s 20 year anniversary of delivering care.
