Sanctuary Care home residents in Hersden stepped back in time to the 1950s this weekend as they celebrated Silver Sunday.
On Sunday (1 October) there was live music, fabulous frocks and an abundance of mouth-watering food when the team and residents at Meadow View Residential Care Home invited local people along to their 1950s Rock ‘n’ Roll inspired event.
Silver Sunday is a national day which celebrates older people and their contribution to our society, with communities and organisations hosting free events to help combat loneliness and reduce isolation.
For Sanctuary Care, this year’s Silver Sunday was extra special as it marked the beginning of the organisation’s 20 year anniversary of delivering care.
Taking a trip down memory lane, the Blackthorn Road home, which also provides dementia care, threw open the doors for a very special celebration, with live music and a high tea menu for everyone to enjoy, with a variety of finger sandwiches and cakes.
The team also ensured they looked picture perfect, donning vintage dresses, polka-dots and neckerchiefs.
Activities leader, Katherine Hammond said: “Our residents and the team really enjoyed our Silver Sunday event, it was so great to see everyone get involved, dressing up, singing and dancing – the celebrations were full of laughter and it was the perfect way to mark this special day.”
