Residents at a Sanctuary Care home in Ivybridge have been busy baking this week, ready for a host of exciting Christmas events.
Combining dried fruits, spices and cinnamon, residents and the team at Ivydene Residential and Nursing Home on Staniforth Drive have been rolling up their sleeves to begin preparing their scrumptious Christmas cakes.
The home-made cakes will be ready for the home’s residents, staff and families to enjoy over the festive season.
A festive pastime
Commenting on their baking 83-year-old resident Dot Pope said: “I’ve loved helping to make our Christmas cakes, it’s always been something I’ve done every year.
“We will be feeding them over the next few weeks, then icing and decorating them and we’ll save the best bit ‘till last – eating them over Christmas!”
Activities leader Lucy Cassidy added: “It’s so great to see our residents get involved in the Christmas preparations.
“We always support and encourage our residents to continue with their favourite pastimes and for many, when it comes to Christmas it’s the baking of the Christmas cake!”
