Welcoming in the Year of the Dog

Residents have been cheering Kung Hei Fat Choy – or Happy Chinese New Year this week at a Sanctuary Care home in Harrow Weald, as they welcomed in the Year of the Dog.
The team and residents at Rowanweald Residential and Nursing Home on Weald Lane celebrated Chinese New Year – Year of the Dog, on Friday (16 February) adorning the home in brightly coloured homemade decorations.
To mark the most important day in the Chinese calendar, residents enjoyed making their own paper fortune cookies complete with a secret message, treat for the recipient or a fun task.
Travelling the world
According to their fortune cookies, a nurse at the home, Sergiu Sabou (pictured) was made a king for the day, whilst activities assistant Elaine Rivers received a special compliment from resident Lillian Galpern (pictured).
Lillian, who has had first-hand experience of life in China said: “I travelled all over the world for 21 years – China was very nice!”
Elaine added: “Our residents love themed celebrations!
“We have celebrated Chinese New Year here at Rowanweald for the past few years and it’s always something our residents and the whole team look forward to.”
