Residents welcome four-legged friends to Westmead

Westmead resident Betty welcomes Crufts winners to the care hone in Droitwich

There were beaming smiles at our Droitwich care home recently when winners of Crufts 2022 came along for a visit.

Oscar, Snowie and Winnie arrived with rosettes and prizes galore to visit residents at our Westmead Residential Care Home.

The Best in Show stars were hugely popular, with activities co-ordinator Kate Lockwood saying: “We have a number of residents who not only love Crufts, but who also held their own dogs close to their hearts throughout their lives.

“It was so special to see the smiles our furry friends brought to the everyone’s faces as they reconnected with those feelings.”

Residents at Westmead have enjoyed many animal encounters at the home, from hedgehogs and rabbits to a tortoise and even a snake – they have held them all!

Research shows that for older people, especially those living with dementia, animal therapy can relieve stress and bring joy and companionship.

Studies also suggest that spending time with animals is good for our general health and well-being, and can improve our emotional, social, and cognitive abilities as we grow older.
