Proud to be veteran friendly

Proud to be veteran friendly

At Sanctuary Care, we are proud to be recognised as a provider of veteran-friendly care homes, with a growing number of our homes accredited by the Veteran Friendly Framework (VFF) across the UK.

Whether you are looking for residential, nursing care or a respite care stay, at care homes for veterans, our teams are committed to supporting those who have served.

A group of five individuals stands in front of a banner celebrating 75 years of the Royal Navy Reserves in the West Midlands. The banner features the Royal Navy logo and is decorated with a Union Jack motif. Two members of the group are in naval uniforms, while the others are dressed in civilian attire. They are holding a commemorative plaque and a badge. The background includes a brick building and decorative elements, such as red paper poppies.

An elderly man stands in the center, holding a cane, and smiling. He is flanked by two female caregivers, both wearing navy blue scrubs.

What is the Veteran Friendly Framework (VFF)?

The Veteran Friendly Framework (VFF) is designed to better support the practical, emotional and social needs of the armed forces community living in care homes.

The VFF is a collaboration between Armed Forces charities Royal Star & Garter and Royal British Legion and NHS Veterans’ Covenant Healthcare Alliance (VCHA).

What does it mean to be a veteran friendly care home?

At Sanctuary Care, being a veteran-friendly care home means more than accreditation – it’s embedded in everything we do.

Through personalised care and a culture of appreciation, we ensure veterans feel respected, understood and valued.

Our care homes for ex-military residents create a welcoming and inclusive environment where shared experiences help build strong communities.

What our VFF-accredited homes offer:

  • Dedicated Veteran Champions, including team members with military backgrounds, who bring valuable insight, empathy and understanding
  • Tailored care plans that reflect the unique life experiences, needs and preferences of ex-military residents
  • Commemorative events and celebrations, such as VE Day, D-Day and Armed Forces Day, honouring service and encouraging remembrance
  • Engaging social programmes that promote connection, companionship and camaraderie among residents
  • Stronger links with local veteran organisations, helping residents stay connected to the wider armed forces community
  • Enhanced staff training and awareness, ensuring teams are confident in supporting the emotional and wellbeing needs of veterans

Why choose a veteran-friendly home for your loved one?

Choosing a care home for veterans or an armed forces care home can offer additional reassurance and support.

  • Residents become part of a supportive veteran community
  • Shared experiences with other veteran can help ease the transition into care
  • Teams understand the specific needs of those who have served

If you or your loved one has served in the armed forces, a veteran care home can provide not only expert care but also a strong sense of belonging.
