Camillia House is just 15 minutes from Edinburgh city centre. We’re situated in The Grange, a suburban conservation area dominated by beautiful stone-built villas and mansions from the Victorian period.
Our own building was refurbished to a beautiful standard in 2021. It’s Grade II-listed, so all of its historic charm and original features remain intact. It’s bright and airy, with high ceilings and cornices in our stunning lounge and dining areas.
It’s a safe environment where elderly people can enjoy their senior years in total comfort. We have a variety of facilities, including:
- 26 comfortable bedrooms, with some featuring ensuite wet room facilities and some dedicated to couples / companions. We encourage our residents to make these spaces their own with reminders of home.
- spacious lounges where residents and staff gather to enjoy each other’s company, relax and get involved in engaging activities.
- a lovely dining room – we gather here to enjoy delicious home-cooked cuisine, prepared by our on-site catering team.
- wheelchair-accessible gardens, which allow our residents to get out, enjoy the fresh air and catch up with visiting loved one
Engaging activities at our nursing home in Edinburgh
At Sanctuary Care, we’re dedicated to enriching lives through engaging activities. We like to make sure that no two days at our nursing and dementia care home in Edinburgh are ever the same for our residents.
We’re fortunate to live in a city where there’s so much to get involved in, right on our doorstep. On any given day you can find us:
- collecting and exchanging page-turners by our favourite authors from the nearby National Library of Scotland.
- taking in the sights and sounds of live music at the spectacular Usher Hall.
- spending time with residents from other Edinburgh nursing homes at our local church’s dementia café.
- meeting Scottish football legends at Hibernian Football Club, which embraces us at an event it runs each month for people living with dementia. It’s a real highlight for our residents, who’ve spent time with the likes of Willie Henderson, Peter Cormack and more.
- enjoying the wonderful sights of Edinburgh and beyond via barge trips (from Rathro to Livingston) and the Maid of the Forth sightseeing boat tour (from Forth Bridge to Inchcolm Island).
- minibus trips to Portobello Beach – where our residents love to sit on the promenade with an ice cream.
Our dedicated team at Camilla House
We’re a not-for-profit care provider, meaning any surplus income goes back into our residents, staff and homes. We’re proud of the long-standing and experienced team at our care home in Edinburgh.
Home Manager, Michelle McQueen has led our home since 2018. Michelle has lots of experience in the care industry, having started her career as a registered psychiatric nurse. She later specialised in dementia care. Michelle says:
“It’s so important in my role to enable and encourage our residents and their family members to feel included and valued in the day-to-day running of our care home.
“This means we can have meaningful connections with each other and our community around us – only contributing to the high standard of care we provide.”
All of the care we provide is tailored to meet individual needs. We create care plans for each of our residents in conjunction with them and their families. These plans are regularly reviewed and adapted as needs change.
It’s reflected in every element – including our food. Our chef, Rowena spends time getting to know our residents, what they love to eat and their nutritional needs. It enables her to prep healthy dishes they can look forward to.
