Fernihurst Nursing Home in Exmouth

A stone’s throw from Exmouth beach, some of our rooms overlook the sea across to Dawlish.

Our Exmouth care home boasts spacious bedrooms, which have their own individually painted front doors. Our residents love to relax and take part in activities in the lounges, and we have a light and airy conservatory overlooking the gardens. We also have a hairdressing salon, for appointments with our mobile hairdresser.

Music therapy is very popular at Fernihurst, with regular Singing for the Brain sessions. There are crafts, gentle exercise and more person-centred individual activities that enrich our residents’ lives. And our team often bring in their well-behaved pets.

We have a vintage themed shop, with everything from jars of sweets to postcards. as well as a special Tiki bar, crafted by our maintenance man Kevin for happy hour! Kevin loves doing woodwork with our residents in their workshop. His inspiring activities even helped us get to the finals of the Care Home Awards 2021.

And for residents to who like to get out and about, we organise regular trips on our ‘Whizzy Bus’.

The beautiful secure gardens include a summer house, perfect for garden parties! We decorate this for special occasions, including an ice cream parlor in the summer and a Christmas winter wonderland.

There are wheelchair-friendly pathways and sensory features, with the sounds of ocean waves playing through sensors. There’s also a water feature and a giant canopy which looks like the sails of a ship.  

It is usual for residents in care homes to contribute to the cost of their own care. Some people have the resources to pay for this in full, whilst others make means-tested contributions.

Our weekly fees are individual to each of our residents and are subject to a pre-admission assessment, which is required to understand the level of care and support needed.

Our highly trained team provide dementia and nursing care, palliative and end of life care, and respite care.

We are rated Good by the Care Quality Commission in our July 2021 report, with Good in every single area.

We have communal lounges for our residents to relax in, dining rooms, a hairdressing salon, conservatory, as well as beautiful gardens.

Our residents enjoy everything from cooking with our chef, doing woodwork with our maintenance man, trips out, music, crafts and gentle exercise.
