Care home admissions during the Covid-19 pandemic

Safe admissions into our care homes includes the option for new residents to self-isolate in the comfort of their own home for 11 days, before joining us in the care home where they will be tested for Covid-19 and supported to self-isolate for 3 more days until the result of the test is known.

The Butterworth Centre is a hospital for patients with continuing care needs situated in the grounds of the Hospital of St John and St Elizabeth in St John’s Wood.

The hospital is located a short walking distance from Lord’s Cricket Ground and the Abbey Road Studios in a vibrant area with lots of shops and restaurants, and is close to St John’s Wood tube station, on the Jubilee line.

In consultation with our patients and their families (where appropriate), our dedicated team provides a range of treatment, care and support for our patients to address their individual mental and physical healthcare needs.

The hospital is divided into three sections, comprising 14 bedrooms, an activities and quiet lounge, dining area and day lounges.

All of our 42 single en-suite rooms come with television points. While the rooms are furnished, we encourage patients to make their rooms their own, by bringing personal ornaments, pictures and even small items of furniture.

With several lounges and dining rooms, there are plenty of areas for our patients to use as they wish. There is also an activities room on the third floor of the hospital, where our patients can enjoy a range of activities with people from the hospital.

Butterworth Centre’s features include:

  • En-suite bedrooms, with television points
  • Several lounge areas and dining rooms
  • An activities room
  • A hairdressing room
  • Wi-Fi enabled throughout the home.

Our Team

The clinical care of our patients is led by a Consultant Psychiatrist in collaboration with the General Practitioner (GP), nursing staff and other health professionals to provide care and treatment.

To ensure we continue to provide the best standards of care and support, we recruit and train only the best staff.

Whilst members of our team receive a variety of on-going training to ensure their skills remain up-to-date, along with an enhanced DBS check (formerly CRB), it is their dedication to our patients which makes them truly special.

We believe it is important that our patients are able to take part in interesting activities, rekindle old past times and try new things, spending their time as they choose.

Regular activities on offer include arts and crafts, pampering sessions, film sessions, music, gentle exercise as well as regular visits from entertainers.

Care and support

We pride ourselves on treating people as individuals and our patients have care plans tailored to their individual medical, social and emotional needs. We review care plans on a regular basis, involving family and friends wherever possible.
To support our patients’ personal care needs we can support them to access local professional services, including:

  • Chiropody
  • Hairdressing
  • Optical care
  • Dental care
