Ashwood Park care home in Peterlee
Set in the traditional mining village of Easington Colliery, and less than a 10-minute drive from the neighbouring town of Peterlee, Ashwood Park is a thriving residential and nursing home run by a team of truly devoted staff.
Here, we provide a comfortable environment for our residents to receive residential, dementia, nursing, palliative and respite care. Our person-centric approach ensures the support we provide is tailored to meet the needs of individuals. And our team is experienced in supporting these needs as they evolve over time. We are here for you or your loved, every step of the way.
What facilities can our Peterlee care home offer residents?
Ashwood Park care home has a whole host of excellent facilities for our residents to enjoy.
In our Willow Suite, for residents living with dementia, we have an old-fashioned quiet lounge. There is no television in this bright and sunny room, which overlooks the beautiful gardens. Instead, there is a vintage jukebox so residents can listen to their favourite songs. Family and friends can get involved too, by bringing in their own playlists. It’s a powerful way to stimulate the mind.
We’ve decorated the suite with themed walls – including one paying tribute to Easington Colliery’s rich coal mining past, with nostalgic photos of the miners and interesting facts about the colliery. We also have walls dedicated to The Royal Family and musical legends, such as The Rat Pack. It helps to keep our residents engaged – taking them back through their memories.
The home’s sensory garden is adored by our residents. Filled with bird feeders, it’s a space where they can go out to enjoy the soothing sounds of birdsong and the sound of the water features. Many of our residents love planting flowers and making hanging baskets - which make wonderful gifts for their relatives.
We also have a hair salon where residents can enjoy a spot of pampering. Equipped with vintage electric hood dryers, it’s visited by a hairdresser every week for hair, hand massage and manicure appointments.
What kinds of activities do we organise at our care home in Peterlee?
There are so many social activities to enjoy at Ashwood Park Residential and Nursing Home.
Our regular film nights are a firm favourite. Everyone gets into their pyjamas and slippers, and we watch classics, like The Sound of Music, and modern musicals, like The Greatest Showman, with plenty of popcorn and hot chocolate.
For residents with conditions that require higher nursing needs from their beds, our vintage-style singer regularly brings the sounds of the 1940s straight to them – giving them personal performances of their favourite songs. We bring the activities to their bedside to ensure they don’t miss out.
We’re often joined by an abundance of four-legged friends as part of a pet therapy initiative. Visiting guinea pigs, rabbits and (well-behaved) dogs bring our residents joy and prove wonderful for their well-being. We have pets of our own too – including two budgies and ducks!
Just adjacent to Ashwood Park is Sanctuary Care’s Birchwood Court Residential Care Home. Naturally, the residents of both homes share close bonds, getting together for special occasions like our summer fêtes.
We also share a minibus, so residents can enjoy regular trips to Peterlee and further afield in County Durham. Hartlepool Marina, Beamish Museum and Seaham Beach are much-loved spots – with its 1950s theme and amazing ice cream, the residents love Seaham’s Lickety Split.
Closer to our Peterlee care home, some of our residents also enjoy regular outings to their favourite pubs for a spot of lunch and a good chat over a pint.
A high-quality respite care home in the Peterlee area
We also offer short-term respite breaks, which can be pre-booked in advance. These are a lifeline for caregivers in our local community who care for an older relative at home and need a short break. You can have the peace of mind that your loved one is in a homely environment, where our devoted team will support them with a high standard of care.
Ashwood Park Residential and Nursing Home pricing information
It is usual for residents in care homes to contribute to the cost of their own care. Some people have the resources to pay for this in full, whilst others make means-tested contributions.
