Allanbank Care Home currently provides nursing and residential care for individuals who require care and support due to physical, sensory and mental health issues.
The home also provides nursing care and support for 12 adults with mental health issues.
The home consists of six, eight-bedded communities, one seven-bedded community and a 12 bedded community each with their own garden, lounge, dining room and bathroom.
Allanbank has 67 en-suite resident bedrooms. There are two rooms dedicated to quiet time and relaxation, nine further shared lounges, six private gardens and two large open garden spaces. We have an on-site kitchen and laundry. All the lounges have a TV and each bedroom is able to access an aerial should a resident want a TV in their own room. We have broadband/WiFi service so residents can make full use of the internet.
Our care team is on-hand 24 hours a day, every day of the year and staff are dedicated to delivering care with kindness.
To ensure we continue to provide the best standards of care and support to our residents, we recruit and train only the best staff.
Whilst they receive a variety of on-going training to ensure their skills remain up-to-date, along with an enhanced PVG check, it is their dedication to our residents which makes them truly special.
We have two dedicated co-ordinators who organise internal and external activities. They also work closely with the local Alzheimer’s Scotland to access events and groups run by them where residents wish to attend.
Internally we have regular quizzes, karaoke and local musicians who come in to entertain us with jazz and traditional Scottish ceilidh music. We host fun seasonal events such as Easter parades, Halloween parties and Christmas dinners.
We have strong links with our local community. The local museum gives us memory boxes to use within the home. We have an excellent relationship with the local football team and attend their home matches (they also work closely with Alzheimer’s Scotland).
There is a hair salon on our lower ground floor. The local hairdresser attends weekly for those wishing to make an appointment. We have three team members trained in the exercise programme Oomph! which takes our residents through simple chair-based keep fit. Local ministers attend monthly to hold a non-denominational service and we help those who wish to attend their own church by making use of our own minibus.
At Allanbank there are no set times for getting up or going to bed, all residents are encouraged to tell us about their personal care wishes and plans for how they would like to spend their days. We aim to have a detailed ‘life history book’ for all residents to enable team members to make the care plans as personable and individual as possible. The plans are assessed on a monthly basis and residents will actively take part in this process, along with their families, if they wish.
As well as group activities we provide we ensure each individual spends one-to-one time with members of the care team or family.
We pride ourselves on our traditional Scottish country fayre, which we produce from scratch and residents enjoy greatly. However, it’s not unusual to see Indian, Chinese and Italian dishes on the menu too, to provide some variety. We carry out a full dietary assessment upon admission to assess nutritional needs and personal tastes. In addition, residents can meet with the kitchen team to discuss any likes, dislikes and to make suggestions. We hold a monthly nutritional group meeting which residents are encouraged to attend to give their feedback and input to upcoming menus.
