Forefaulds was the best choice for mum
Susan explains why Forefaulds is the best place for her precious mum Margaret. “It was the hardest decision we’ve ever had to make, but actually the best decision for mum.” Read the full story.
With a well-established team of highly trained staff, some of whom have worked here for over 20 years, Forefaulds is a care home with a genuinely warm family feel.
The loved ones and family members of residents are very much embraced into the heart of the home, which provides nursing care, dementia, palliative and respite care. Many of them volunteer at Forefaulds, tending to the gardens and helping with activities. Many of the relatives recently joined the team for a fund-raising walk around James Hamilton Heritage Park in East Kilbride, where we raised over £300 for the nursing home.
We have a café area for our residents’ families, who are welcome to pop in whenever they wish and make themselves at home.
Forefaulds Care Home provides short-term pre-bookable respite care. We understand the importance of giving carers the flexibility to take some time for themselves to recharge, whilst loved ones receive a break of their own and the very best care. Please call the home on 01355 220102 to find out more about our short-term pre-bookable care breaks.
Mealtimes are a real highlight for the residents, who enjoy delicious traditional Scottish fare prepared by head chef Stephen, who has worked at the home for a staggering 27 years! He knows our residents’ likes and dislikes and will cater to their every need. If they fancy something which isn’t on the menu, Stephen is happy to prepare it for them. The cakes he makes for birthday celebrations and every day for afternoon tea are outstanding.
Keeping residents engaged and stimulated with fulfilling activities is a vital part of life in the home. Whether enjoying a spot of holistic therapy with our regular Reiki sessions or waving pom poms around in the music and movement classes, there is always something to do! Our more intimate one to one activities are so important too, where we sit with a resident and do anything from reading poetry together, spend time reminiscing or treat them to a relaxing hand massage.
Every week we take the residents out and about in our own minibus. A short drive from the nursing home is the National Museum of Rural Life in East Kilbride. Other favourite spots that our residents like to go each week are South Lanarkshire’s Calderglen Country Park and Whitelee Wind Farm in Eaglesham, Glasgow. If they fancy a little retail therapy, the care home is a very short drive from the town’s main shopping centre.
Every week the leaders of the local churches conduct services at Forefaulds, especially for our residents. We are also invited back to Moncrieff Parish Church in Calderwood every week for activities, including dominoes, darts and boules.
There is a Namaste room at Forefaulds, which is a relaxing area where our residents who live with dementia can spend time in soothing surroundings. They can enjoy a hand or foot massage, with mood lighting and the scent of aromatic oil fills the room.
It is usual for residents in care homes to contribute to the cost of their own care. Some people have the resources to pay for their accommodation in full, whilst others make means-tested contributions.
Our 2022 weekly room fee starts from £980 but may be in the region of 20% more*. This depends on your care needs and the type of bedroom that is right for you, from our standard rooms to our premium bedroom options.
*If you require more specialist care such as 1-2-1 support, your weekly fee could be higher.
