Once upon a time…

Residents at a Sanctuary Care home in Hersden enjoyed page-turning fun when local primary school children joined them for National Storytelling Week.
The team and residents at Meadow View Residential Care Home on Blackthorn Road welcomed youngsters aged five to seven from Hersden Primary School to celebrate the tradition of storytelling.
The children and residents enjoyed home-baked cookies, made especially for the visit, whilst listening to Meadow View’s home manager Matt Wood recite the enchanting tale of The Gruffalo.
Into the deep dark wood
Commenting on the special visit, Miss Abbe Mills, teacher of the young pupils said: “Julia Donaldson, the author of The Gruffalo is currently our ‘Author of the Term’ so it was the perfect fit for our visit for National Storytelling Week!
“As a school we are on a reading for pleasure journey, giving the children different reading opportunities and promoting a love of books – something we are thrilled to share with the lovely residents at Meadow View”.
Matt added: “Our residents love the children’s visits and it was lovely to have the opportunity to read the wonderful story of The Gruffalo to the two generations.
“We are all already looking forward to their next visit.”
2018 marks the 18th year of National Storytelling Week, which was set up by the Society for Storytelling to promote traditional storytelling amongst all ages.
