Verity’s Masterchef victory!

The culinary flair of the chef manager at our Iffley Residential and Nursing Home has secured her a second victory in the Sanctuary Care Masterchef competition!

Verity Carter wowed the judges in the annual contest, which is held in partnership with Unilever Food Solutions, and showcases the talented catering teams we have cooking for our residents.

Her main was a mouth-watering pan fried halibut with mussel risotto, served with a late summer salad and a lemon and herb infused oil dressing.

Verity wanted to create a modern take on a traditional dessert – and her organic poached plums, with a toasted walnut and honey crumble, served with vanilla Panna cotta did just that!

Speaking of her victory, which was announced at Sanctuary Care’s first ever Chef’s Conference, Verity said: “I am so proud to have won. I love to cook seafood, as well as more traditional dishes, with my own twist.

“I get such pleasure from cooking for our residents – giving them a really enjoyable dining experience makes me so happy. It’s lovely to speak to them and hear that they have really enjoyed the meals I have prepared.”

Verity, who has worked at Iffley, one of our four nursing homes in Oxfordshire for four years, went head to head with fellow Sanctuary Care’s chefs across England and Scotland in the competition.

Each was tasked with creating a two-course menu during a 90 minute cook-off in the grand finale, which was held at Unilever Food Solutions’ Chefmanship Centre Kitchen in Surrey.

The menus had to comprise a main course and a dessert, which were well balanced and displayed the chefs’ creativity, culinary and presentation skills and innovation.
