“My sister has re-appeared” – Irene talks through the benefits of care home life

When Irene’s sister Barbara was struggling to look after herself at home, they put a home care package in place. Just before it started Barbara suffered a fall and after several weeks in hospital, it was clear she needed care around-the-clock.

Moving into Barony Lodge Residential Care Home in Nantwich, the sisters are incredibly happy they made the right choice.

Looking back Irene wasn’t sure her older sister, who is 91 years old, would settle into life in a care home, because she’s so independent.

“When she was at home it was a tremendous worry,” says Irene. “I just couldn’t be there every day.”

Irene couldn’t believe the transformation in Barbara after moving into the home 16 months ago.

“When she went to Barony Lodge she was very low and depressed, but now my sister has re-appeared - the change in her has been amazing,” she explains.

For Irene it’s the peace of mind knowing Barbara has care round the clock from “compassionate and caring” staff.

“I’ve only got good, inspiring things to say about them – it’s a comfort and we are very happy,” she adds. “And through the pandemic, nothing has changed for her, she’s just very, very happy there.”

Irene said it is not just the caring staff, it’s the whole package. She adds: “The home is spotless, and her bathroom is beautiful.

“The other day I asked how her Sunday lunch had been and she said: ‘the queen couldn’t have had better’! The food is brilliant and Barbara always says how wonderful it is.”

And for Irene, she has that peace of mind. She continues: “It’s just comforting to know that she is safe and happy. You need to know that your loved one is being looked after and it’s very reassuring.

“If I had another loved one in this area that needed somewhere to go, I would recommend Barony Lodge.”
