Planting to create a regal legacy

June and Pat plant a tree at Beach Lawns Residential and Nursing Home in Weston-super-Mare

Our residents in Weston-super-Mare and Devizes have been creating a lasting legacy by taking part in a royal tree planting scheme.

The Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC) has been set up to encourage people across the UK to ‘Plant a Tree for the Jubilee’, to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee.

Green fingered residents at two of our homes have already got involved. Pat and June at our Beach Lawns Residential and Nursing Home in Weston-super-Mare were delighted to plant a miniature Willow. The tree will look beautiful as it grows, but will stay a very trim three meters in diameter.

They were closely followed by residents at our Briggs Lodge Residential and Nursing Home in Devizes, who planted the same variety, with more homes taking part over the coming months.

Home manager at Briggs, Alison Wetherall said: “We are delighted to be making history here at Briggs by planting a tree which we hope will flourish for years to come, to mark such a wonderful royal occasion.”

Our residents are joined by schools, nurseries, scouts and guides groups across the UK, who will be planting trees during the official planting season until March, then commencing again in October 2022 through to the end of the Jubilee year.

With a focus on planting sustainably, the QGC is inspiring people to and create a legacy in their localities, in honour of our Monarch.
