“I feel so appreciated – it’s not just for me it’s for the team here” Jen’s awards joy

Jen Freeman, activities co-ordinator at our Rosary Nursing Home in Bridgwater, Somerset

A selfless activities co-ordinator who devotes her spare time to supporting others has won a BBC community carer award.

Jen Freeman, who has worked at our Rosary Nursing Home in Bridgwater for 12 years, was shaking when her name was called to collect The Carer accolade in the BBC Radio Somerset Make a Difference Awards.

When the grandmother-of-three leaves work she divides her time between caring for her mother, her father and her father-in-law.

And when it comes to her residents at The Rosary, she is equally as devoted - often popping in on her days off to spend time with them or support her colleagues.

Speaking of her shock at the victory she said: “I was shaking when they called my name! I feel so appreciated – it’s not just me I feel extra proud for the team here.

“I feel that no matter who you are and what you do you can make a difference with a smile”

Jen attended the ceremony with her husband Mark, her father-in-law Vic, son Callum and daughter Jane.

She adds: “They wouldn’t let go of my trophy they were really, really proud of me!”

Equally as elated were the home’s team and residents. Jen adds: “The staff were all proud and congratulated me and the residents said how much I deserved it. I love my job and the residents, they mean everything to me.”
