Meet Amanda – enriching lives with special experiences

Amanda, our activities co-ordinator at Pavillion Residential and Nursing Home, our care home in Sunderland

When Amanda joined The Pavillion as activities coordinator, she certainly brought her creativity.

Using her artistic talents, Amanda creates so many wonderful experiences for the residents. Her current project is ‘Sanctuary Tours’, where she decorates a giant mobile candy cart with a theme for the week. Next stop is Blackpool, with buckets and spades, candyfloss and rock!

Amanda loves taking her residents to see the sea as often as she can, with regular trips in the home’s minibus to Roker and Seaburn beaches, where they enjoy fish and chips in the fresh air.

She said: “I just love it – I love seeing the residents enjoying themselves. Recently one resident said to me when we went to the beach that it was like a trip down memory lane, because he hadn’t been there since he was a child. If I can make them smile, then I’m happy.”

Another activity the residents absolutely love, are Amanda’s mini maker pamper sessions. As a trained hairdresser and nail technician, Amanda treats the residents to some fabulous makeovers, curling their hair and painting their nails.

And the residents are enjoying taking part in the home’s Grow Your Own Way project, where they nurture their own produce from seed, which will eventually be used in the home’s kitchen, from seed packet to plate!

For Amanda, The Pavillion and her residents mean the word to her and her family, with her three grandsons, including two-year-old twins, regularly visiting.

“The residents are like a second family to me, and I love my job,” she adds. “The residents love it when they come in and are constantly laughing at the twins!”
