Becky’s Story – Finding Her Spark at Camilla House

“People sometimes say, ‘I’m just a care home nurse’, but in reality, you’re a nurse who makes a lasting impact. You can still shine and pursue your nursing passions.” Becky, Registered Nurse, Camilla House  

When Becky joined Sanctuary Care in 2021 as a Registered Nurse at Camilla House in Lancashire, she was looking for a change of pace from her hospital role - but what she found was a whole new world of opportunity.  

Bringing with her a background in wound care, Becky quickly spotted ways to make a real difference. With the full support of her manager and senior team, she created a ‘skin care e-kit’, a simple but powerful idea that’s now transformed wound care across all of our homes, with help of our Learning & Talent Development and Quality & Clinical teams.  

But Becky’s journey is about more than one great idea. It’s about how Sanctuary Care encourages every colleague to bring their whole selves to work; their expertise, their heart, and their ambition. She’s now been recognised nationally for her achievements, as a finalist for the Care Registered Nurse Award at the National Care Awards, and highly commended at the Royal College of Nursing Awards in 2024.  

For Becky, the role is about connection as much as care. “It’s not just about nursing, it’s about making people feel safe, loved, and supported,” she says. “You really get to know the people you’re caring for and their families. That’s something you just don’t experience in other settings.”  

Becky’s story is a powerful reminder that nursing in care can be just as clinical, just as skilled - and even more rewarding!
