An “amazing team” and “compassionate culture” – Anna’s story

Ravi Mathavan, the eldest son of Anna, a resident at Haven Residential Care Home in Pinner, shared the deeply positive experience he and his family have had since his mother moved into full time care.
Ravi recalled the emotional strain and uncertainty he faced in the lead up to his mother’s move. With no prior experience of care homes, he found it incredibly difficult to place his trust in others to look after his mother. He was particularly concerned about how she would cope with leaving the familiarity of her own home and adjusting to a new environment.
However, those initial anxieties were quickly eased thanks to what Ravi described as the “absolutely amazing” team at Haven, where Anna experienced respite care following a hospital stay. It was during this time that Ravi witnessed what he called an “outstanding demonstration of Haven’s compassionate culture.”
As Anna began to settle into life at Haven, Ravi felt an immediate sense of reassurance. He saw first-hand how the care team responded to his mother’s individual and complex needs with warmth and attentiveness. “Nothing was too demanding, everything was doable,” he said, reflecting on the team's can-do attitude and genuine commitment to care.
This positive experience led Ravi and Anna to make the decision for her to move into full time care at Haven. Once again, Ravi was struck by the home’s welcoming and nurturing approach. He made special mention of the Deputy Manager, also named Anna, whose unwavering compassion and dedication to all the residents gave Ravi and his family immense peace of mind. Her presence, he said, “was a powerful endorsement of the values that define Haven.”
Ravi now visits his mother regularly with his daughter and takes great comfort in knowing she is surrounded by what he describes as the most “hospitable, helpful, and welcoming team.” He shared that he sleeps much better at night, confident that his mother is in safe, caring hands.
