Animal magic at Regent

A resident of Regent care home is holding a small tortoise in one hand. The person is wearing a blue checkered shirt and standing in a room with beige carpet, red tablecloths, and leopard print cushions on the floor. A large poster of the Eiffel Tower with tulips in the foreground hangs on the wall behind them.

Residents at our Regent Residential Care Home in Worcester have recently enjoyed not one, but two wonderful animal encounters.

The first event, hosted by Animal Mania, transformed the home into a mini zoo for the day. A wide variety of animals were brought in, much to the residents' delight, including Stuart the Chinchilla and Gary the Rabbit. The therapeutic experience of stroking and cuddling these gentle creatures brought smiles and sparked conversation throughout the home.

Other guests included Darren the Bearded Dragon, whose surprisingly soft quills intrigued many, and Trevor the Bullfrog, who one resident remarked “looked just like a gherkin!” But it was Dave the Snake who truly stole the show.

The event was such a hit that Animal Mania has already been rebooked for later in the year.  One resident, Lez Edwards, shared how his lifelong love of animals meant he particularly cherished the day.

Activities Coordinator Helen Park reflected on the deeper value of these experiences, explaining: “Animal visits bring so much joy to so many of our residents and often help them to rekindle fond memories of a time when they owned their own pets, creating a comforting sense of nostalgia.”

The residents also enjoyed an encounter with two charming alpacas, named Viscount and Vita, from Avalon Orchid Alpacas.

The alpacas’ gentle nature and soft coats made them instant favourites, and the residents enjoyed feeding them carrots.

Helen added: “The joy these animals brought was evident in the smiles and laughter that filled the home. With more animal visits planned, we continue to embrace the power of animals to bring residents’ such joy and enrich their lives!”
