Hastings Residents Reach New Heights

Residents at our care home in Malvern have been scaling new heights, thanks to the kindness of two local organisations.

Twice a year, the Malvern Rotary Club and the Malvern Hills Access Partnership offer a truly special experience, an off-road journey to the summit of the Malvern Hills, for individuals who would otherwise be unable to make the climb. This summer, Hastings Residential Care Home was delighted to be invited to take part in this heartwarming initiative.

Two residents, Edith Walker and Gloria Allen, were selected for the trip. Edith, who had a passion for long-distance running, and would run the length of the hills regularly, whilst Gloria spent years working at a café perched at the top of the hills.

As the Land Rover ascended, the pair saw breathtaking views, stretching as far as the eye could see. At the top, Rotary Club members greeted the group and pointed out key landmarks, enriching the experience with stories and local insights!

Edith was delighted, saying “I thought it was fantastic, and it brought back a lot of memories of my running days when I used to run the length of the Malvern Hills!”

Gloria’s fond memories of the café came flooding back: “I used to drive up the hills from the Wyche Cutting to deliver goods to the café that I used to work in and that once stood near the top of the Malvern Hills.”

The generosity of the Malvern Rotary Club and the Malvern Hills Access Partnership celebrates the power of local community. For Edith and Gloria, it wasn’t just a trip, it was a brilliant return to cherished memories.
