Allanbank Care Home Shines as Finalist in prestigious Scottish Care Awards 2025
The devoted team at Allanbank Care Home in Dumfries are beaming with pride after being shortlisted for Scottish Care’s prestigious Care Home Awards 2025, recognising their exceptional commitment to enriching their residents’ lives.
In the finals for the Care Home Service of the Year Award, the honour celebrates the outstanding dedication of Home Manager Sandra Mcnay and her team, who care for 69 residents aged 53 to 96 at the not-for-profit Sanctuary Care home.
Sandra said: “This shortlisting is testament to the phenomenal team we have here at Allanbank, who have an unwavering devotion to supporting our residents to live fulfilled and enriched lives each and every day. I am enormously proud of the community we have created here, and it is a joy to be part of such an inspirational team.”
Some of the wonderful experiences that residents enjoy include flamboyant and joyful cabaret performances and pantomimes, the latter of which see the residents taking starring roles, and art and cookery classes.
Other recent highlights include the team supporting a 79-year-old resident fulfil her dream of riding her first rollercoaster! Residents also enjoy regular swimming sessions, which improve their mobility and mental wellbeing.
Allanbank’s pioneering spirit shines through projects like the ‘Relive Reality’ kit, which uses virtual reality and sensory tools to transport residents to dream destinations. Their collaboration with Scottish Care on the Poetic Arts and Playlists for Life initiatives further empowers residents to express themselves through art and music.
From knitting neonatal hats and syringe driver covers for hospitals, to growing produce at a local veterans’ garden, Allanbank residents are very much at the heart of their community.
And partnerships with the Queen of the South Football Club, Theatre Royal, and local colleges create magical intergenerational bonds.
