Angela takes second place in Sanctuary Care’s MasterChef!

Staff stood together smiling with cheque

Angela Robinson, Chef Manager at Redhill Court Residential Care Home in Birmingham, has been awarded second place in Sanctuary Care’s prestigious annual ‘MasterChef’ competition, with a Caribbean-inspired menu.

Angela, who has worked at the care home for 14 years, crafted a mouth-watering two-course meal in a live cook-off, showcasing flavours close to her heart. Her main dish featured jerk chicken with coconut rice and peas, fried plantain, mango salsa and jerk sauce. For dessert, she served a decadent Jamaican rum cake with rum sauce.

Inspired by her late mother Mavis, who was from Jamaica, Angela’s cooking reflects deep family traditions and a passion for bringing joy to her residents. Angela lovingly prepares spicy dishes on request for those residents who enjoy flavours with a little extra heat!

Picture of food

This recipe is a family tradition, my mum used to cook it for us when we were young. I used to make it for one of our residents who loved Jamaican food, and I still cook it for some of our residents today – they love it and always ask me to cook it again! I was overwhelmed to come second place; it meant a tremendous amount to me.”

Angela’s achievement was celebrated at Sanctuary Care’s annual Chefs’ Conference, where winners were announced. The competition, run in partnership with Brakes, was judged on taste, presentation, creativity, and culinary technique.
