Athlone House Gets the Gold Standard
A Sanctuary Care home in London has been re-accredited with a prestigious national award for providing Gold Standard end-of-life care.
Athlone House Nursing Home in Westminster has been awarded a national Gold Standards Framework (GSF) Quality Hallmark Award, in recognition of the excellent end-of-life care the devoted team provides. The team are proud to have been successfully re-accredited with this award every three years since 2012.
Manager at the not-for-profit Sanctuary Care home, which also provides dementia care and nursing care, David Coker, proudly received the award at the GSF annual conference and awards ceremony. The event, held recently in Birmingham, is a celebration of the UK's exceptional health and social care providers for the care they provide in the final year of life.
He said: “I am enormously proud that our incredible team here at Athlone House have again, for the fifth consecutive time, received this award in recognition of the exceptional standards of care we provide to our residents at every stage of their journey.
“Every three years there is a thorough and robust reassessment process, and we continue to shine for our compassionate and dignified care. Thank you to my team at Athlone House, this is testament to your dedication and passion to provide the very best care for our residents.”
Extracts from the home’s report commended the team’s “dedication and passion”, highlighting how they were “deserving of retaining their accreditation.”
The report also highlighted the “very good team spirit and staff retention,” how residents’ personal wishes were achieved, as well as support for their “emotional, social and spiritual needs” too, with the needs of family carers closely supported from the very beginning of their journey.
It also praised how “social care and emotional wellbeing is enhanced” for residents, who receive truly “person-centred care”.
The report also highlighted how “staff understand the impact for families of having a loved one in a care home, supporting them through a range of emotions during this transition.”
