Celebrating preceptorship success

Staff stood together smiling

Two of our nurses are beaming with pride after becoming the first Sanctuary Care colleagues to successfully complete our new preceptorship programme.

The outstanding achievements of Goemeone Ramoleko and Zoleka Gxulu were marked with a celebratory tea party at our Upton Dene Residential and Nursing Home in Caldecott Close, where the team came together to recognise their dedication and growth.

Sanctuary Care’s bespoke preceptorship programme, which launched last year, provides structured, onetone support for newly registered nurses and those joining us from overseas, helping them transition confidently into their roles. Throughout the 12month journey, nurses are paired with expert Preceptors from Sanctuary Care’s internal Nursing and Care Quality Improvement team who guide, coach, and build clinical confidence.

Reflecting on her accomplishment, Goemeone said: “I have learnt so much having someone by my side - always there for me and giving me the right support when I needed it. It has really built my confidence, and I am so grateful to everyone who has supported my journey.”

Equally proud, Zoleka added: “As soon as we started the programme, everything began to take shape, and the support has been amazing. We did it - and it was a real team effort! We’re so grateful for all the encouragement, and the party was such a wonderful surprise.”

The preceptorship programme offers tailored support during a critical period of transition. By consolidating clinical skills and strengthening professional confidence, the programme empowers participants to flourish in their roles and deliver the highest quality care for residents.

Sanctuary Care’s Head of Practice Development Nadine Littler and Regional Manager Raschel Smith praised the impact of the initiative, saying: “The preceptorship programme brings together our operational teams and clinical quality colleagues to support and enhance the confidence and skills of our nurses. The difference in clinical capability, confidence, and team cohesion is remarkable - and we can clearly see the positive impact on outcomes for our residents.”

The programme is just one part of Sanctuary Care’s wider Clinical Strategy, which won the Nursing Times Care of Older People Award in the Nursing Times Awards 2025, as well as being shortlisted for the Nursing in Social Care Award.
