Millport Care Centre, Isle of Cumbrae

Providing unique and specialist care for adults with complex learning needs, with residential care, nursing care and respite care, Millport is a thriving not-for-profit care home. Rated ‘Good’ in our latest Care Inspectorate report, we are very proud to have received a standout ‘Very Good’ for leadership.

The team are highly trained to care for adults with varied learning needs and mental health needs. The care is so specialist that people come from far and wide, with residents ranging in age from 20 to 90.

With learning disabilities nurses and mental health nurses, most of the staff have worked at the home for over 10 years and are like an extended family. They are passionate about providing care that is truly bespoke to the very individual needs of the residents and supporting their independence.

Our breathtaking location

The care home could not be in a more picture-perfect location in North Ayrshire, 100m from the beautiful beach, with sea views. The residents enjoy visiting places across the island, with plenty of picnics on the beach and walks along the promenade.

Spending time at FSC Millport – a field centre for studying marine life
Visits to the Museum of The Cumbraes and the local library
Attending local events, from raft races and Country and Western events, to the Crowning of the Cumbrae Queen and vintage car shows

Arts and crafts, games, baking and karaoke
Gardening at the community garden in the Garrison grounds, where the home has raised beds to maintain
Volunteering in the local community, supporting our residents’ independence, including beach cleaning

Family and friends

With many of our residents aged between 30 and 50, many have parents who love to visit. The loved ones of our residents are very much part of our care home, and we support them to enjoy quality family time together.

Meet Lisa, our Manager at Millport Care Centre

Lisa began her career in care 17 years ago when she applied for a care assistant role at Millport Care Centre after working in retail. What started as a new opportunity quickly became a passion, and she has remained with the service ever since. After her first year in the care centre, Lisa moved into housing support, where she spent 13 years developing her skills and building strong relationships with service users.

During this time, Lisa achieved her SVQ Level 2 and Level 3 in Health and Social Care and progressed into a team leader role before becoming Housing Support Manager. Just eight months later, she was promoted to lead both the care centre and housing support service, demonstrating her commitment, leadership and in-depth knowledge of the service.

Since Sanctuary took over in 2017, Lisa has valued the organisation’s strong ethos of teamwork, support and continuous improvement. She is passionate about making a positive difference to the lives of service users, supporting them through both good and challenging times, and helping them achieve their personal goals and outcomes. She also takes great pride in creating a supportive environment for staff, encouraging development and progression within the team.

Lisa is proud of the progress the service has made under her leadership, including improving inspection outcomes and building a strong, dedicated team across all departments. She is currently continuing her own development by working towards her SVQ Level 4 and Management and Leadership qualification.

Outside of work, Lisa enjoys swimming, music and attending concerts and festivals. She values spending time with family and friends, while also taking time to relax and recharge.

Her advice to families is to visit the home, meet the team and, if possible, spend time there with their loved one, getting a real feel for the environment and ensuring it’s the right fit.

Pricing information for our care home

It is usual for residents in care homes to contribute to the cost of their own care. Some people have the resources to pay for this in full, whilst others make means-tested contributions.

Our weekly fees are individual to each of our residents and are subject to a pre-admission assessment, which is required to understand the level of care and support needed.
