“Everything we do is for the residents” – Amy and Lynn are awards finalists!

Two members of the team at our care home in Pensby have been shortlisted for the North West regional finals of the Great British Care Awards.

Amy Irwin-Steens and Lynn Jones were over the moon after finding out they were finalists for the Activity Co-ordinator Award, for going above and beyond to enrich the lives of their residents at Ridgewood Court Residential Care Home.

The ladies are constantly thinking of ways to keep their residents connected to the local community and are passionate about the residents playing a very active role in how their home is run, championing resident ambassadors who do everything from attending activities meetings to interviewing potential staff.

Speaking of their shock at the surprise nomination, Amy said: “I was overwhelmed when I found out. I feel so appreciated – we love every moment working here and are so passionate about what we do.  Being nominated for an award and having the support from all the staff and our manager really means a lot.
Lynn added: “I was shocked – we’ve only been here a short length of time, so to be recognised in this way is really nice. Everything we do is for the residents.”

Amy and Lynn are passionate about the community being really involved in the home, with local school children among the many visitors. And you will often find them at the Singing Café in nearby Heswall, supporting the residents to meet new and familiar faces while singing!

Next month the inspirational duo are creating a festive wonderland in the home’s gardens, which they are opening up for the community to admire!

Amy and Lynn will find out if they have won their regional award at a ceremony in Manchester in November, so watch this space!
