A Gold Standard of Care
Our care home in Exmouth has received a prestigious national award for providing Gold Standard end-of-life care.
Fernihurst Nursing Home in Douglas Avenue has been awarded a national Gold Standards Framework (GSF) Quality Hallmark Award, in recognition of the excellent end-of-life care the devoted team provides.
Manager at the not-for-profit Sanctuary Care home, which also provides dementia care, nursing and respite care, David Sarreira proudly received the award at the GSF annual conference and awards ceremony. The event, held recently in Birmingham, is a celebration of the UK's exceptional health and social care providers for the care in the final year of life.
He said: “I am so proud and honoured to have received this award on behalf of the incredible team we have here at Fernihurst. It is truly testament to the exceptional standards of care we provide to all of our residents, at every stage of their journey with us.
“Our team are passionate about providing the most dignified and enriching care we can for all of our residents, and their care and compassion truly shine.”
Extracts from the home’s report described the excellent way the team communicates with loved ones and how well they support families emotionally and holistically and how dignified every aspect of the care they provide is. It also revealed how residents’ personal choices were always respected, from how they wanted their room to be lit, to whom they wanted by their side, and the music they wanted to listen to.
The report also highlighted how vibrant life was in the home, with a wide variety of wonderful experiences for residents to enjoy, from animal visits and live music, to gardening in “beautiful” gardens.
