“I never expected to call it home" - Mo's life at The Winsor

When Mo moved into The Winsor Nursing Home three and a half years ago following a fall at home, she never imagined she would one day proudly call it home.  

Mo spent her working life as a carer, developing clear expectations of what good care should feel like. Fast forward to today, and she talks about what makes her happy at our not-for-profit home in Minehead.

Settling in at The Winsor  

From her very first days, 87-year-old Mo found warmth, reassurance and humour in the team supporting her. Being nursed in bed means she sees lots of staff throughout the day - something she has come to treasure.

“The staff here are lovely, you can’t beat them – they are always so cheerful and we muck about,” she laughs. “They take it all in their stride – they are brilliant.”

Mo describes her interactions with staff as joyful, filled with laughter and providing a wonderful sense of companionship: “I can’t fault them at all – I do tease them and we have a laugh and a joke – we are always laughing and joking.”

As someone who once cared for others professionally, Mo knows what great care looks like. At The Winsor, she sees it every day. Staff are consistently reassuring, gentle and attentive - little details that mean so much to Mo.

A Space That Feels Like Hers

Mo loves her bedroom, especially the views, which bring her such comfort. “When the sun comes out it starts behind me and works its way round,” she says.

She also receives frequent visits from friends, something she loves.

Despite never expecting to live in a care home, Mo has found genuine connection at The Winsor.

“I never thought I would end up in a care home – but the best bit about being here is it’s just satisfying, and I think the staff are marvellous. Honestly, I can’t fault it.”
