Faith achieves milestone in social care

Staff Smiling

A proud nurse from our care home in Colne is over the moon after becoming our first registered nursing home nurse to become a NonMedical Prescriber.

Faith Adetula, who has been a nurse at Peel Gardens Residential and Nursing Home for nearly five years, has successfully completed the rigorous NonMedical Prescribing programme, supported and funded by Sanctuary Care, following one of the organisation’s new development pathways, at the University of Central Lancashire.

This achievement means she is now registered with the Nursing Midwifery Council as a non-medical prescriber, enabling her to independently prescribe medication for residents – a level of clinical autonomy rarely seen in social care settings and a significant advancement for the sector.

Faith shared why the qualification is so important to her: “I am so proud to be the first nursing home nurse within the organisation to achieve this milestone – it still feels surreal. It represents not only personal growth, but a significant step forward for nursing practice in health and social care as a whole.”

Reflecting on her journey, she added: “It is an honour to be part of a team that truly values professional growth and clinical excellence. I am proud to be one of our nurses to have been chosen for Sanctuary Care’s Clinical Advancement Programme, as this is a competitive and inspiring opportunity.”

As part of her continued development, Faith, who will advance her training even further:

  • January 2026: begins an Advanced Clinical Examination Skills module
  • September 2026: starts her fully funded MSc Advanced Practice Apprenticeship
  • On completion, she will be among Sanctuary Care’s first nurses progressing toward advanced clinical practice roles under this pathway.

Faith explained that the support she has received has been instrumental in her success: “The level of one-to-one mentoring I have had during my journey has made a huge difference and has reinforced how committed Sanctuary Care is to developing its nursing team.

“This training and the support around it have shown me that care home nurses are not only capable of advanced practice, we are essential to the future of social care nursing. I’m proud to be part of this evolution, and proud to work at Peel Gardens, where nurses are encouraged to lead, learn, and make a lasting difference.”

“I am as well grateful to Sanctuary Care for the encouragement and investment in my development. This is just the beginning of the next stage in my clinical journey.”

Driving innovation in social care

Faith’s achievement forms part of Sanctuary Care’s wider clinical strategy, enabling nurses to work at the top of their profession, enhancing resident outcomes, and setting new standards for the sector. The strategy is so pioneering in social care, that it won the Care of Older People Award in the Nursing Times Awards 2025.
