Abercorn’s high fives with exceptional Care Inspectorate report

Staff stood together smiling

The team and residents at our care home in Hamilton are celebrating their glowing Care Inspectorate (CI) report.

Abercorn House Care Home has received stand-out ‘Very Good’ ratings in its recent report following an unannounced inspection, for how well the team support people’s wellbeing, and how good the setting is. This follows the home’s 2024 report, when the home received ‘Very Good’ ratings across all five areas inspected by the health and social care regulator.

Residents and their loved ones had high praise for the devoted team, with quotes from the latest report describing them as: "the nicest people I have ever met", with other comments including how their loved ones are “cared for without exception”.

Relatives described communication as excellent, one noting, "I was always kept up to date, they are really attentive and reassuring."

The dining experience was another area that received high praise, described as “relaxed, with meaningful conversation, humour and natural engagement”, with one resident commenting, "I don't think I've ever eaten better than here."

Inspectors had extremely positive feedback about the meaningful activities residents enjoyed, which were described as “varied and creative”, with truly person-centred experiences, like the renewal of wedding vows for one resident and his wife, intergenerational events with nursery children and events which supported residents to stay connected to the local community.

The environment in the home was another stand out area – described as “warm, clean and homely” and “well maintained.” The report highlighted “dementia friendly” principles in the home, bedrooms that reflected residents’ “personalities, interests and histories”, themed rooms and “calm and inclusive” spaces. It revealed how their loved ones greatly “valued this attention to detail” and the continual rolling programme of investment and improvements.

Home Manager, Rowena Alferos, said: “We are thrilled with the feedback from this inspection. Our residents and their loved ones place great trust in us, and we are committed to honouring that trust by continuing to provide excellent care, a wonderful environment and opportunities that enrich their lives each and every day.”

In addition to this latest success, Abercorn was runner up in the Care Home of the Year (Scotland) accolade in the Caring UK Awards 2024, and activities coordinator Von Ryan Ong and the team were finalists in the Caring UK Awards 2025 for the Activities Team Award.
