Sanctuary Care celebrates second major nursing award

Sanctuary Care has secured a second major industry accolade, continuing its recognition as a leading force in social care nursing.

The leading not-for-profit care provider has been announced as a winner at the Care Home Awards 2026, taking home the Best for Nursing Care award. The win comes after a Nursing Times Awards victory, where Sanctuary Care won the Care of Older People accolade.

Recognising its innovative and sector-leading approach to clinical excellence, the award highlights how Sanctuary Care’s clinical strategy is redefining nursing in social care – strengthening clinical governance, advancing professional autonomy and developing highly skilled teams across its 109 homes in England and Scotland.

The strategy provides a comprehensive, organisation-wide framework focused on evidence practice, clinical practice development and upskilling and enhanced and advanced practice.

It brings together a range of pioneering initiatives, including upskilling programmes for care team members, enhanced support for internationally educated nurses, a nursing preceptorship programme for newly registered nurses, funded degree and Masters level clinical modules and the introduction of advanced clinical practice.

Sanctuary Care’s Director of Quality and Chief Nurse, Emily O’Hara, said:
“I am incredibly proud that Sanctuary Care has been recognised with a second national award – a fantastic achievement for everyone involved.”

“To receive this recognition truly reflects the continued dedication, expertise and passion of our colleagues.”

“Together, we are building a highly skilled clinical workforce for the future, strengthening the role of nursing in social care and, most importantly, continuing to improve outcomes and experiences for the people we enrich the lives of every day.”

At the heart of the strategy is a strong focus on empowering both nurses and care colleagues with the clinical skills and confidence to respond to increasingly complex needs, helping to reduce avoidable hospital admissions while delivering high-quality, person-centred care within the home environment.

By combining innovation with established best practice, Sanctuary Care continues to set new standards in the sector, championing clinical excellence while enhancing the lives of residents across its homes.
