Work Placement to Home Manager… Amy Lucas’s Career Journey in Sanctuary Care

Amy Lucas’s journey at Pengover Residential and Nursing Home is a shining example of what passion, commitment, and continuous development can achieve. Starting in 2002 as a student on work placement, Amy’s career has grown step by step into the leadership role she holds today as Home Manager.
What began as a work placement during her BTEC National Diploma in Health Studies soon became a weekend role as a Catering Assistant. At 18, Amy moved into a Care Assistant position, completing her NVQ2 before going on to study Social Sciences and achieve a BSc (Hons) in Psychology, all while continuing her career at Pengover.
Amy’s progression didn’t stop there. She became a team leader, balancing her professional growth alongside raising her two children. Her determination saw her return from maternity leave to take on the Deputy Manager role, where she spent five years developing her leadership skills and completing a Level 5 qualification in Management.
In 2022, Amy became Home Manager, bringing with her years of experience, dedication, and a genuine love for her work.
For Amy, it’s the variety and purpose of each day that fuels her enjoyment. She is especially committed to nurturing her team, sharing, “I am passionate about supporting staff to grow, helping them recognise their strengths and build confidence.” She also places strong emphasis on relationships, stating, “building positive relationships and delivering person-centred care is at the heart of my role.”
